Pictures from Jasper and my trip to B.C. so far
13 juni 2018 - Charlie Lake, Canada
Hello All,
I write this on a rainy evening/night on the Rotary campground in Charlie lake, Fort St. Johns. Internet works now (after midnight) because the other users went to bed.
I also uploaded some video's so please look there too.
If you wonder why the car looks sometimes so muddy then this is the reason.
I drove up there to have a good view on the main road I still had to drive
In Jasper National park I took these pictures
it's calving season for the Elks. So instrucktions to stay away from them.
This duck family went for a daytrip
they went rafting. please look in the video tab
in the park they are used to campers and leave room at the back to park safer.
In Jasper I noticed how far I'm from my goal, Tuktoyaktuk. But the detour was worth it. I was in Jasper in 2002 while traveling with my mother out of Vancouver. So now my trips were connected by road. So after this trip I drove roads between Vancouver and Tuk. The car I got this time ( a Ford F350 super duty with 6.7 liter diesel engina, has navigation in it. Also sateite radio but even that is ofline often in some areas, In Alberta it worked fine.
From my campground site in Jasper National Park I could see the mountain station of the Jasper Skyway and wanted to go there but already had doubts due to the heavy wind and indeed next day it did't run.
From now on I go in direction of the Artic ocean in Tuk.
That will take me 7-8 days from Jasper
Along the way I passed Mount Robson National Park with the highest mountain of Canada.
here some views in mount robson park
just a picture I liked
I only just could cross this bridge as I'm instructed to drive only if it is at least 4 meters high.
On a nice campground between jasper and fort st john.
I had a barbecue again.
At first the fire did't go well because I only had 2 half burnt logs that were in the barbecue and some charcoal I bought.
But they the fire wood delivery service came to the rescue.
It was a bit wet wood but from the park where the campground was. the park ranger came to collect the fee for the site and asked If I want to have wood logs. You can see I bought it.
Next day I started to drive to the Alaskan highway.
I was at the Bijoux waterfall, and that picture didn't survive the upload to here. but more important was that the sign told that If I had patience I might see a Stellers Jay. I was patient , stood 15 minutes real still and it showed up
It came real close, see video in the video tab.
after that I drove to Chetwynd, They like woodcarving up there.
Unfortunattely I missed the woodcarving festival from last week but they had still a lot of examples of last years festivals too. here some examples
Also along the road
Then up to the Alaskan Highway
After this trip I have driven the whole Alaskan HIghway, 3 years ago I did the part in Alaska.
I took a side trip on an old stretch of the higway with a wooden curved bridge.
But it worked out because now I'm in Fort St John. Listining to the rain on the campers roof.
It was a long story but I had now internet and I knever know when I have it again.
till next time.
Ton
that all looks exceptionally great, I have to say. Quite some views, you managed to make pictures of. Safe trip and keep having a great time.
